Variable displacement vane pumps are available as shown in Figures 1 bellow where the centre of the rotating vane block can be moved in relation to the centre of the housing. Unlike the balanced vane unit ( fixed displacement vane pumps), these are single acting and, as a consequence, there is an unbalanced pressure force on the rotor so that the bear­ing size has to be increased in order to obtain adequate life.
